Englemann spruce #3 progression

Just like to say that you have developed a nice styling-eye, @Hartinez !! I had hoped to be there with you by now, but I'm still stuck on "pine tree" first branch, second, back, etc.....

I had a plan, than I had a kid.....so much for plans!!!😄😄😄😄

….buy you a beer, but bro, everything's closed...:(

FaceTime beers taste just as good @LanceMac10 ! You say the word and I’ll get to pouring.
And thank you for the great compliment as I understand the struggle. I’ve got 3 kids running around and when I work on trees I’m blowing them off, much to the shagrin of my wife! It’s been necessary though with this covid shit, just to keep my mind straight! But It does mean a lot as I’m 8 yrs in to this hobby and still barely feel like I’m getting a grasp on a style or even how to wire for that matter. And dam it, in no way should you tell me your not there! I can’t even keep a maple alive let alone a whole forest of them! The respect is mutual and I value long term members like yourself! Keep the beers flowing and trees bending!

Very nice. It's going to be nice to see this one develop. Hope you can get some backbudding and tighten up the image as it fills in. Nice work 👌

Here’s an example. Lots of buds at the tips of last years growth and a decent amount of buds up each branch like this one. Once these buds push more and show healthy growth, and hopefully produce buds of there own, I’ll cut back! Maybe not to this one though, all stuck in a crotch and all...

The buds on this one are plentiful @PiñonJ . A thing of beauty to see them progress each year.

I had planned on a collecting trip come May For more of these, but with the world on hold it’s starting to look uncertain. 😔
A collecting trip is one activity that still makes sense!

My situation is a tad different. With 3 kids at home, taking off for a weekend or even a night is a lot to ask of my wife! But with being locked down like this, it may be a much needed getaway.

Looks really good. I wouldn't re-bend those branches too often though.
Thanks and Def not. It’s very slight tweaking to the branches on the left only. This one will sit till this fall before I cut back to back buds.

This the other angle I could possibly see working. View attachment 296669
Even though this view seems more 'expressive', I get the feeling that it is mooning me.

On the other hand, my quick impression of your currently chosen front it that it would look better tilted to the right (and maybe a bit forward) - by quite a bit, but less than 30 degrees. It just seems too upright for the branch asymmetry. Even then, it seems to just be there, whereas the mooning view has some real feeling - I just wish it was a more friendly feeling. Maybe if the apex gave a feeling of looking back at me. Maybe ... oh, I dunno. Maybe it just needs some time.

I just mean 'food for thought'. What makes a design say something (or be 'expressive') as opposed to just being there, looking nice?
