This a forest design of Chinese elm, the two main trees ive had for a while and they form the focal point of the forest. there's 8 trees in there, to date two cuttings have taken, so 10 if you count those. today i added two more cuttings. not concerned with even or odd numbers at this point, but just kind of randomly adding cuttings and hoping they strike:)

The final image was the forest at the start of the month of may 2015, its filled out a little more and will update in due course. you might have guessed by now that I love Elms, i also have english and european elm, i love deciduous trees, ive been mad about bonsai for 3 years and ive often read threads from this forum but never posted, im also a member on other popular forums.

In the beginning

In the above image you can see how many cutting were first added that didnt take, had they taken it would made for a very natural forest, however, elms are easy to come buy and i can go again...

The little guy above is one of the survivors, this one is budding up nicely now, im guessing being shaded by the big tree helped it to kick on. i guess its placement mimics a sucker you often see in nature under big trees.

Although it has a bigger trunk, this is the secondary tree for me

Quite nice Bobby! You should post more often. Only thing (small quibble) the secondary tree trunk is a bit too thick and straight. Lovely though, great work!

Yeah but the face is wicked!

I wonder if you could carve a little weigh off of it.

I really Like the forest, but that monster right there is a bit much.

If you could carve it to almost mimic the main one, I think it would be more comfortable.

Or even just expose the wound to show the damage.

But I dig it how it is too.
Very nice work!

WoW! You said you've been doing this 3 years? Something to be proud of there and nicely documented. Thank you for sharing and future updates :)

Hi peeps and thanks for the comments, i agree the trunk is a little fat, but it doesnt really bother me, when i see the forest, the tree up on the hill jumps out at me first. in time the little cutting in front the fat tree may obscure part of the trunk;)
ive added a couple more cuttings, will update soon..

i love it....how do you stop the soil from running off the slab? It looks like it's pretty heavily organic soil, so maybe it's not that much of a problem

Hi, the soil is held together with the moss covering, otherwise it would run down the edges...
Here is another forest, this one with Cork bark elms, thought i might as well combine the threads and can update each as they develop.

This ones a few months old...its more of grove really

Those are great looking forests! I love the shape and arrangements, good job.

London with a palm tree in the background? interesting...
I like this elm grove, the chubby main tree is very nice.

Hey, you are a proper forest guy! Great looking stuff.

Not really, but i went through a period of being obsessed with forest designs and these two were the result, they have both just had a prune so will update soon, they were becoming very unkempt:)

I am going to make something very similar to this and have been planning on doing it for about a year...your forest is inspiring for me!

Nice compositions, they are both very pleasing to look at. Great Job!

Thanks for all the comments peeps, i get the moss from a garden, it was growing over some rubber matting. forest designs are very enjoyable to put together, keep us posted..

Bobby, very nice forests indeed. Have you already been so "green" in UK?
But more, it's not often seen to use so strong individual trees for forest planting. I love it. The corkers are inviting me to walk right in between the trees when the tallest is in the front. The first forest is a little bit in the distance. Good job, lovely trees.
