And by the way... I am personally much less interested in the national election than voter propositions in California.

California voters just approved that it is ok to teach public school classes in Spanish... It overturns a law from 1998 that stated all public school classes had to be taught in English (though you could have specialized bilingual classes for non-native English speakers).

On the bizarre side, the voter proposition that would have required all male porn stars to wear condoms failed. Yes - that was a real state-wide voter proposition.
 
Despite the glokm and doom, I think theres a huge opportunity here.
This election could show politicians we are sick of whats been going on for years and we want a change. Something the repubs missed in the primaries and dems (minus sanders) have missed the whole election.
A point that is going to be lost to politicians if the trump victory is wrongly blamed on half the country being racists.
There were black voters that turned out for trump and i dont think any of us did so because we hate black people.

Good point. Just the way the Brexit vote was explained. Problem there was that within 24h peoplte started to say how they regretted voting for brexit. That it was just a protest vote. I just wonder when people are going to learn.. Voting to show unhappiness may cause.. More unhappiness.

Just would not want to be a Female Gay Muslim that is unwanted pregnant due to rape in the USA. No chance you are going to be done right by.

Sigh. This is just the problem. Whenever someone asks for an explanation, all that comes back is that people are to stupid to understand, have their heads upi their ass yadieyadie. How do you expect people to understand what you mean then?

As for "better in the USA than in a muslim country": I always thought the USA was a country where everybody was welcome, and to live their live as they wanted. However, I just see that being changed into live the way a christian American wants. So I do not understand how a country that claims to want to be as free as possible, can solidly vote for someone who wants to reduce that freedom so broadly. From freedom of religion, to freedom of coice re. abortion to freedom of settlement.
But ok. I am just too stupid or something. Maybe you can help me learn?

ironic you say that - my former bosses partner (a liberal, gun hating , gay, artificially inseminated, female, immigrant) was raped by a robber (he was just going to rob her but thought what the hell it looked like he had enough time to rape her too).

she was treated just fine, by the police, the hospital and had enormous support from people from our work and our community. she was offered emergency contraception after the rape as its legal to do so.

sadly the robber/rapist is already back out of jail though because of our screwed up judicial system.

on a positive note, the ladies have since been trained in defense gun use to avoid being a victim again.

but to your point :
nobody is suggesting it be made illegal to be female, gay, or muslim or even be an immigrant (as long as you go about it legally and are vetted to not be a terrorist, which to me seems pretty reasonable). if thats a platform someone has run on i havent heard about it.

and its still legal to have abortions or the morning after pill (and probably will be for the foreseeable future) .

i agree with your sentiments - its a shame people are talked down to on here but lets give some context (in @LanceMac10 's defense)
weve heard REPEATEDLY in this thread that americans are stupid, anyone who votes for trump is stupid AND a racist, americans are just "being american" (how american of them) - so i think people are a little on edge and tired of hearing that bullshit.

now i dont mean to speak for the guy but i figure thats where he thought you were going with it and responded in kind.

Hm.. What I think I picked up from obvisously a bystanders' point of view was that Trump wanted to close the borders for all muslims, and overturn rulings on same-sex marriages

I'm sick and tired of having these labels slapped on me because I'm a middle-aged white male. You know, we are the cause of all the worlds problems or so I'm told!!

And for the record, I'm no fan of Trump. And I'm one of those "low brows" supposedly falling over their white sheet to vote for him. Trust me, every promise he made to the voting block will not come true. It's all posturing and pandering. The guy is a scumbag, flat-out!!

A lot of the problems in this country would be solved if we could put people back to work at a job with a salary that could provide them an opportunity to support themselves and raise a family. But the blame there rests on the shoulders of AMERICAN businessmen who continue to outsource work to raise their profits, the hell with the community. The government needs to be involved at this stage because the greed is getting out of control and it's weakening society as a whole.

As an aside, your not "free" here, your apart of a society and you have responsibilities. And you can freely practice any religion you want, but remember, this country was founded on Judeo- Christian beliefs, right or wrong, but there it is. The country prospered following that course. As did most countries in Europe. In Saudi Arabia, your scenario would need to include the subject being thrown into a ditch and stoned to death. You seem to think that happens here.......

Honestly though, between Barack and Trump I'm starting to wonder what criteria people have for choosing who to vote for......:confused:
