Dogwood Airlayer Attempt it can't be harder than sweetgum šŸ˜

Very encouraging! Iā€™m excited to see your progress. Iā€™m interested in acquiring a dogwood, have fond memories of them as a child.

root growth looks pretty good. i would separate now, but i have to do a big trunk chop, so i was thinking February. i don't know how it'll respond to a chop in fall instead of spring and if it'll backbud and push shoots or not.

maybe in February I'll separate them and do some root work, and probably put a wire on, too.

hard chopped and pulled from the woods while it's still cold. i read dogwood bleeds, so avoid big spring and summer chops. it had a nice amout of roots. i let all the coco/perlite fall off without washing or cutting the roots and potted up.

i went to pick some moss and other stuff from the woods off the bark and noticed new buds. in the woods, i noticed all the dogwoods that ended up exposed to full sun because their shade had died had bark loss, die back and death.

im thinking fungal attack. doesn't look like anthracnose, and leaf scorch usually starts crisping from the tips inward.20230517_190308.jpg

new shoot is still extending and the chop callus is still moving.
