It's kind of annoying to have to click on each attachment (or hit next) and wait for each picture to load. I'd rather just scroll through pictures and be able to see pictures side by side, especially for progression pictures. On most forums that I go to, pictures are usually externally hosted and display inline so this is not a problem. I know some people probably prefer this the way it is, but is there an option I can enable to show the pictures inline/full size?

DSC_00050004.jpgJust before you exit the picture posting area there is an option to post the pic within the thread. It will also show the thumbnail so the photo isn't lost due to broken links.

No one wants to come back three year later to read the thread and have the pictures post with little red exes due to broken links or servers out of business or any myriad of problems.

Sorry, just puts the thumbnail in line, not large and viewable.

In line in the post still needs to load.

You might need a faster IP.

Yeah, that's pretty much the same thing, IP is plenty fast, but when I'm clicking through 10 pics, every pic takes a second or two to pop up and load, whereas if they were loaded full size, they would all be loaded by the time I finished reading the first post.

It's really very easy. upload your photo to bonsainut in "manage attachments", click preview post, and you'll be able to see your thumbnail. Then right click on that thumbnail, open it in a new tab, grab the html address from that new tab, and copy and paste it between the bbc start and end image code tags, which are
. It will show up full size, and since it's been uploaded to bonsainut, you won't have to worry about broken image links in the future.

they're supposed to be around the link when you type it all into your message... and just to clarify, you type those tags yourself - just type that exact text "
I]
" so it should look like this:

HTML:
[img]http://bonsainut.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=24486&d=1340191980[/img]

and make sure that second [/img] tag (the one that ends the code like a parenthesis ) or a bracket ] ) has a slash in it before "img". Alternatively you could just click the add image icon and insert the image link that way. Just remember to unclick the "retrieve remote file and reference locally" box, because it won't work since it's technically not a remote file, but a local one.

Does putting the pix in the thread use more of BNuts allowed space? WOuld this be detrimental to the site in the long run?

Ah, didn't know I had to type those characters myself... trying again...

ok - success. But it does seem like a lot to do if you have a bunch of pics, , maybe there is a way to do more than one at a time???

Also is there any way to make it a bit smaller, so the image is only as big as the page, cause this one is so big you can't see the whole image at one time... Maybe it's the initial size of the file that determines that? So if I make the uploaded image smaller it'll make the full size one smaller too?

cool.

Not just a size issue, sometime I don't want to open pix, and it can add to others download time for threads.

Yes it does, theoretically. Thumbnails save bandwidth assuming that there are people reading the threads who would not click the thumbnail (thereby saving the bandwidth associated with loading the picture). However if you have a site where all the people view all the pictures, it doesn't do anything. Don't worry about it, however. I have plenty of bandwidth in my hosting plan and don't come anywhere close to a soft cap.

Sometimes people don't WANT to see the whole image - particularly if they are accessing the site on slow WiFi or on a phone where THEY get charged for the bandwidth. So there are pros and cons of each.

Yeah, I understand that there are people that like it the way it is, and I'm not asking for anyone to change what they are doing now (no need to look up the url and use the img tags), but I'm wondering if there is some add on or extension for vbulletin that would allow the user to set their own preferences on how they want the attachments to show up.

Maybe we could save those large shots for just really great trees, like the ones that got sent to the National Exhibition, or winners of Exhibitions - that sort of thing, instead of everything.

I said it wrong, your second part is what I was getting at, good that these don't mess with the service.
