Nothing in my collection...come close to this aspect as of yet.any bonsai examples?

I hate to bring up the old standard but John Naka's Goshin "Protector of the spirit" comes to mind. Realistically, it's probably not something you'd find in nature. However, Mr. Naka achieved excellence in creating his Masterpiece and it is quite believable.

what is wrong with his hand?To me:
Perfection means complying to norms.
Excellence means getting free from some of the norms, and going further.
Take for instance the paintings of el Greco: his portaits are not "perfect" in the sense that the proportion are not exactly natural. This little twist of reality is probably one of the elements that make his paintings "excellent" (to my mind).
