Sorry. Just hate the situation now.
In order to drop into my office I now need to be tested for Corona. Worst part of it.. My office is just 28km away, on the other side of the border.
Stupid part of it is.. The test is because the Netherlands has such high infections rates. And I need one less than 72 hrs old to return to Germany. So I test in Germany. Drive to the Netherlands to my office. Then return and show the german customs the test I took the day before in Germany. Bullocks. No Sense Whatsover.

Sorry.

It's good to have a rant sometimes... and a drink or 5! Takes the edge off. Think everyone is this sort of state - the everything annoys you stage.

Maybe one more whisky will help 🥃

I opted for sleep. Better now. But still annoyed. My new personal ID is ready. In the Netherlands. Sigh.
I'm sure your head will be thanking you today!

Very frustrating times - I appreciate your annoyance. My parents moved to 5 mins away from me at the start of the year. I haven't lived close to them in 10 years. Now we're finally allowed to sit in the garden together, although I'm still not allowed in to their new home for a brew 😕

I'm in the red zone. There's a reason why Germany doesn't allow you to go here.
I can go off and write an entire paragraph about shitty people and crappy rules and politics.. And I did. But it wouldn't solve a thing so I deleted it. Just trust me, the German government did the right thing.

Oh, and we're opening bars again on the 21st of April! 🥳

I heard the condition is that harry potter becomes prime minister again though? But.. I do agree though. Why not have at least the outdoor spaces open.

I know. Every time I am in Enschede I am surprised at the individual interpretations. Then again.. Not convinced we will win this one untill vaccins become available at a reasonable scale.

Are they difficult to get there? Our county/state has opened up eligibility to anyone 16 or older. You have to make an appointment, but anyone that wants one can get one.

People over 70 can make an appointment. The rate things are going here, late 2021 I can get a jab.

There are some countries who pay a lot more and/or have strickter agreements which get all the vaccines. Astazeneca is only delivering 1/8 of the promised vaccins for instance. (Yet seems to be able to supply overloads in UK and USA) The company planned to provide between 80 million and 100 million doses by the end of March, but in January, it drastically reduced the total to 40 million, citing manufacturing issues. Since then, the company has struggled to meet even that goal, and has supplied fewer than 12 million shots to the EU.

Germany does nto seem to have an effective startegy when it comes to get people vaccinated and started off with vaccination centres. Only now have they started to go to the general practicioners for them to vaccinate their regular patients. From people in risk-groups I hear they have spent hours on the phone trying to set an appointment, just waiting. The concept of a webform has not come up in the minds of, it seems.

Add to that seemingly complete incompetence when it come to getting the available vaccines injected (Germany has still somewhere around 25% of the delivered vaccins on a shelve somewhere) and you can see this not moving. I have registered for "leftover" vaccins; Appearently there are people who come to a vaccination appointment, do not like the brand of vaccin and say they do not want that. Then, the vaccination centre can call people from the list inviting them to come right that moment to get a shot.

It's harry "I have no recollection of these events" potter again for another four years.

My girlfriend got her jab tonight, because the hospital she works at had more vaccines than they had arms to jam them in, people just didn't show up. They gave her a call at 21:00 and at 21:15 she got her shot.
I should get mine.. Somewhere in between tomorrow and october. I work in a hospital.

We will not win this at all. We've shown as a globe that we can't fight a common enemy.
Better luck next pandemic?

It's a mess here as well, as it stands I have no idea when we'd even be offered it. We are on private insurance and as the government are dishing it out for free the insurances has washed it's hands of all responsibility. Supposedly we should temporarily register on the public system which is a complete faff and would needlessly risk exposure.
In saying that the wife's work have the facilities to give the jab and said all employees and family members will be offered it but they are going by government policy which means nobody has a clue what is going on. I mean that work plan can more than afford to purchase it's own jabs, knows how to do it but that would undermine the politicians who can't organise a piss up in a brewery.

So we are happy to wait for now, thinking August/Septemberish but who knows.

I'm sorry. No more complaining from me about how my state has handled it. When my husband got his first shot it was kind of like something out of a science fiction movie. You pull into the parking lot of a convention center where there is a sign directing you to turn your radio to a certain station to tell you when to enter the building. Guys in fatigues and masks check your paperwork and tell you where to park. People file in with their masks on get their shots from more people in fatigues and you're done in 20 minutes. It was actually extremely organized.

<Me in the corner muttering to myself about conspiracy theories>
Sorry! It's getting harder and harder to NOT think there's someone pulling out legs at this point.

Saw my doctor a month back. He said that because my family had covid last spring we shouldn't worry about the vaccine right now. Wait and let everyone else get theirs first, if we decide to get it at all.
Go back the other day, and he's telling me I need it immediately.
Which is it, man?

Hopfully this one is not a practice one for something far more sinister!
well.. So far I have been saying that we should be happy it is a relatively innocent virus.
This is not the pandemic I have been expecting for a bit.

Great, that cheers me right up! 😟

I’m tired of this pandemic, I’m tired of all the unnecessary deaths, I’m tired of it completely destroying worklife and finances, I’m tired of having to become a teacher for homeschool while trying to juggle everything else and I am tired of having my own studies fall behind because by the time I get a moment for myself I am done.

when will it end!

It won't end till the fat lady sings, is that not what they say?
I do not see anyone singing.

I am annoyed with our neighbours opening up shops and restaurants and Germany diving deeper into lockdown, even though infection rated in the Netherlands are 3 times that of Germany.

Would love to get a shot. Still not seeing pretty much anybody. Seems that 1 in 4 in Germany had their first shot. No clarity which agegroups are now being called and no prognonsis when I might be called. But yeah, covid-free passports for EU wide holidays being put into place. Solidarity is needed when it comes to vaccination order. But once vaccination has started we start making differences? What?

The same confusion is happening here in the US. The new administration is calling for vaccine passports to travel between states. That's like demanding papers to get from Berlin to Frankfurt, or Paris to Toulouse!
Most rural areas tend to ignore lockdown and mask orders now, which gets more confusing when I have to drive from home into the closest city for work. Do the right/wrong thing in the right/wrong place and get spotted by the right/wrong person and it could put you on the right/wrong side of politics and cause a scene.

Lidl is selling DIY rapid antigen tests for 2,60 euro or so. I'm not sure if those are valid for international travel though.
I did mine today for no other reason than curiosity, came out negative.

But, last week I got the news.. Next week I'll do my first sequencing of variants. A whole new protocol which should be fun. It's been a while since I converted RNA to DNA - for the ones interested; to "read" RNA sequences, you need to convert it to cDNA by building the complementary opposite strand of the RNA, this stabilizes the whole and makes it usable for modern sequencing techniques.

As for the shitshow called The Netherlands.. I don't understand. It makes zero sense, as a matter of fact, it makes antisense. The goal is to decrease the amount of transmissions and to increase vaccinations, so we decrease vaccinations and increase the amount of transmissions. [insert angry rant about politics]
On behalf of my politicians, I apologize for the bad sportsmanship. We've lost the game so now we're screwing everyone around us as well. Sarcastic: That's what the union is all about, right?
