Colorado’s Ceramics

Thanks Doc! No I didn’t add anything, it’s the same glaze I’ve been using. I do apply it in layers to get that look, though. Glad you like it!
Ohh! I think I see, the blue is a nice runny glaze and you have a black (or possibly dark green?) under the lower part to prevent dripping on the kiln.

Gods I miss doing ceramics I need to get back into It

Yep it’s just the dark red/brown clay body underneath.

If I had my own kiln I would risk putting the glaze further down on the feet, but it’s not my kiln so I play it safe 🤣

Would love to see your pots if you get back into ceramics! I don’t have any fancy studio or equipment. Just a corner in a storage room in my basement, a workbench from Home Depot and a cheap wheel off Amazon 😂 just gotta find somewhere to fire.

Something I've considered when glazing with very runny glazes is putting in onto a slab with quartz sand..

Should be able to prevent sticking at quartz has a high melt point of about cone 10.

Probably will start again just because I miss ceramics so much although I may need practice as it's been a few years and my best works were always my masks... But I see these posts and I desperately want to start again to make my own. Pots

It is a ton of fun…endless possibilities to explore!

I still have my highschool notebook of all my... "Experiments" I did all sorts of insanity lol,
From effecting clay bodies to sculpting and glazing insanity.

Certainly I could see my old experiments becoming a fantastic piece in the future, might need to see about finding a public kiln in my area and buying some clay (or making it)

my dude, that cut corner rectangle is amazing! superb construction and no warping on it!

Is the crazed glaze matte? I wonder if that process would work better on a glossy crackle glaze, so there aren't micro crystals for the ink to get washed into. I kinda like it either way

Great point on that crackle glaze - it is a matte finish. You are probably totally right that it wouldn’t stain like that on a glossy crackle glaze! I’ll have to try that next time 😁

Found one of my old ceramics made specifically for a miniature art show.. paints faded and it's super dusty but maybe I could recreate something similar as a pot. An old tee trunk with a bonsai coming out of it.

AI generated image of the basic concept.. although it could look a million times nicer me thinks

What do you think Colorado?

Looks awesome! I think you should give it a shot 😊

Got a load back from my buddy’s kiln! A couple bigger slab built pots, some small rounds to play with some new glazes/finishes, a couple pasta bowls for my wife, and a few whiskey sipping cups for fun 😁

I made this rectangle for my alder. This is the biggest one I’ve made yet at about 16”. I honestly don’t know how the folks like @NaoTK and @ForrestW make the really big ones! This one was about all I could handle 🤣 (and fit in the kiln).

Love how the finish came out on this one — will definitely be doing this one again!

Super funky little round with purple glaze with some light flux on dark clay.

Tried to do a crackle glaze on this one. But when I applied India ink to highlight the crackle, it also stained the glaze itself. If anyone knows how to actually do this properly, please let me know 😂

And finally…Bourbon, anyone?

Cheers!

Wow, great looking work! It can be hard without a good dedicated space and equipment. My hats off to you-- especially that large custom one. I have not made many slab built pots but that came our killer and it will be even better in the spring when you get to pair it with your tree. Make sure you post that after the repot! Keep it up!

Thanks a ton Rob! I will certainly post an update with the tree potted up. 😃
