Colorado’s Ceramics

Package arrived today. Exceedingly well packed. Lol my husband and I were laughing as we took layer after layer of foam, bubble wrap, plastic wrap and paper off of it.

Very nice and just in time for repotting the tree I wanted it for.

Haven’t had one break yet 😁

Glad you like the pot! It was fun making a custom pot for ya.

Porcelain is a lot of fun! I know a ceramicist who does a lot with laguna frost cone 6 porcelain. He is really good so I figure it’s a good commercial blend. It’s the only one I used and is nice but don’t have experience with any other to compare. I find it different when trimming more than anything. It’s like a very plastic pliable soft clay. Super satisfying!

I will have to try that one! I’ve only tried one porcelain. It is Laguna “#16”. Is is okay, but I am going to experiment with a few others :)

Looking good! Its hard when you can not get in the studio for a while.

Thanks Rob! My “studio” is really just a storage room in my basement. LOL!

We had to use it for actual storage temporarily…but finally got some space carved out in there to get back to clay!

Not sure if that green glaze is a keeper, although it might be nice tweaked a little bit or layered with another glaze.

Cheers! 😃

I personally really like the green glazed one. Although green is a harder color to match with a tree. Unless it’s one you’re keeping. I think it’s a keeper. Someone out there will love it for a tree. I’ve sold countless pots with glaze I don’t personally like much. To find the person who bought it loves it. We don’t all see the same is something I’ve really learned selling pottery. The way the green and your dark clay body look together in the way you applied it is really appealing to me.

Love the way they came out! Will look great in contrast to the green and brown of a tree or plant.

Today I had the most inspirational day of pottery since I began my journey a few years ago.

I attended a lecture at the Pacific Bonsai Expo by Ikko and Kakuzan.

I was truly humbled by their humility and stories.

I purchased a pot from Ikko to study his work and craftsmanship. I would never ask for a photo, because I am too reserved. However, I told him that I am a beginner potter myself and he asked to take a photo with me!

What a tremendous experience. I am truly humbled! I can’t wait to get home and study his pot, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll get a little bit better as a result of this study.

Cheers!

It was nice to finally meet and chat with you. I hope to link up again at the National's next year.

Got a load back from my buddy’s kiln! A couple bigger slab built pots, some small rounds to play with some new glazes/finishes, a couple pasta bowls for my wife, and a few whiskey sipping cups for fun 😁

I made this rectangle for my alder. This is the biggest one I’ve made yet at about 16”. I honestly don’t know how the folks like @NaoTK and @ForrestW make the really big ones! This one was about all I could handle 🤣 (and fit in the kiln).

Love how the finish came out on this one — will definitely be doing this one again!

Super funky little round with purple glaze with some light flux on dark clay.

Tried to do a crackle glaze on this one. But when I applied India ink to highlight the crackle, it also stained the glaze itself. If anyone knows how to actually do this properly, please let me know 😂

And finally…Bourbon, anyone?

Love how runny your blue is, did you add extra flux to the large indigo/ blue slab pot?

Thanks Doc! No I didn’t add anything, it’s the same glaze I’ve been using. I do apply it in layers to get that look, though. Glad you like it!
