Just remember if your area subject to a freeze/thaw cycle, the structural integrity of the terra cotta "might, or could" be compromised. It might be prudent to fill them with concrete or mitigate the risk of them crumbling by using some other method.

Yup. I used these ceramic flue liners for 5-6 years in MA, painted grey. Over time, they "spalled", with bits and chunks of the ceramic body falling off over time. The structural integrity of the liner was never compromised, but the certainly started to look pretty rough.

They have fire clay in them which makes them weak. Good for flue liners though.
