Chinese Elm - Seedling to training pruning?

Jerry, how did you start growing that elm? I mean, did you buy a seedling and plant it or was it purchased in a bonsai pot and transferred into the ground? And how long did it take to achieve that height? I've been wanting a nice larger Chinese elm for a while, but I've already got so many things growing out.

From a small cutting from another cork-bark elm.

That thing's been going for maybe 8 years or so...I'll have to look back at old photos to see when it started showing up in them :-)

Actually 10 years, by the look of it.

My advice is NOT to actually do this unless you have masses of space and can do 50 at a time...

With elms we can also use 1/3 - 50 Gallon US barrel and you can get almost 3" of trunk in around six to eight months, depends on the cultivar, we have about 6 from out of the UK.
Freely draining soil, but remember I am in a Tropical climate.
Use a root cutting.
Good Day
Anthony
