Chinese Elm, Indoor?

Isn't what Jack Wikle does amazing? A Juniper inside for 20+ years? Amazing.
Yeah...he brought that tree (actually growing indoors under lights for 25 years now) and a bunch of others to the meeting. Most of them looked a lot healthier than most of my trees.

I don't know why I'm so against people trying to grow outdoor species indoors, but for some reason I just am. So screw that, give it a try. I personally have never tried it so I have no reason to be telling people not to do it. People do it, so it must be possible. Let us know how it goes.

Okay, so I thought I would take a picture of what the tree looks like with the sun on it.

I took light meter measurements both inside at the tree and out right in front of the window and they are the same at pinning the light meter over 10k Lux.

Ryan you are right to caution people. The conditions are not ideal indoors and people who disregard your good advice will likely lose some trees trying to learn. I'm sure your motivation lies in trying to save people time, money and frustration. However, with enough experimenting, they just might get the hang of it and teach the rest of us the secret.

I do realize that indoors isn't ideal, but I only have indoors available to me. I am just not a fan of Ficus. Wigert's even cautioned me against Fukien Tea Bonsai indoors.

Does a Fukien Tea also grows itself to death or is it viable for longterm indoor?

In the same way a Chinese elm does not grow itself to death, neither does a Fukien tea.

Fukien tea are a whole lot more troublesome than Chinese elm in almost every aspect of their growth.
