If I understand right Cathedral elm is a cross between a Siberian and Japanese elm.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulmus_'Cathedral'

The "large elliptic leaves" could be a challenge and Siberian elm tends to abandon branches and let them die off in favor of new ones. Don't know if any of those characteristics carries to the hybrid. Should work just like Siberian elm, lots of growth, cold hardy.

What do u think about a trunk chop leaving no foliage? Idk how else to fit it in my car lol
It honestly would be best to leave it as is. How tall is it? I work at a landscape nursery and I fit 8-14 foot tall trees into cars like honda civics daily.

I drive an SUV an idk about this lol. It might be closer to 16 ft

I'm going to try and tie it down. Does anybody know if it will survive a chop if neccessary?

Ok thanks. I managed to fit it in with just cutting one branch off of the top.

So when is the best time for me to do a full chop on this thing?

In the spring. Too late to do it now before winter sets in and kills off the new foliage the tree will put out. You will also have to consider where you're going to keep this during the winter. It will need its roots protected from the deep freeze. Mulched over the pot in a protected area in the backyard would be good, making sure the pot is able to drain rain and snow melt during the winter.

Hahaha right there with you! I've loaded huge b&bs into the front seat of people's car with the top going out the back seat windows, I've always wondered how these people get this stuff out... Had a guy want a 8-10' Norway b&b loaded on his mini van's roof o_O

So I cant just keep it in the pot in the middle of the yard lol? cuz that was my plan :/ ...should I bury it? I don't have any mulch lol.

If you don't want to buy any mulch then yeah dig a hole and sink it in the ground, you could also use raked up leafs or bury it half way and then mound the leaves up against the pot.

And in the spring don't just cut it down.
Pull it out of the bucket, wash the soil from the roots, cut the roots back too. Plant it in a grow box or colander.
I put them right in my bonsaid soil at this time. As soon as you see green start fertilizing.
Then stand back. Because it will grow like nothing you've ever seen.

So do I have to cover the whole pot in mulch? I've also heard about people keeping bonsai in the garage, would that work or do they need light in the winter?
