Here is my other Golden Dewdrop (durantra erectra)...
This is actually a large cutting that was removed from the top of my other
tree at it's collection 4 going on 5 yrs now...

This was removed 3 yrs ago, allowed to grow for the next 2 yrs, and was
then further reduced in size this year, carved, as well as received it's first
styling...

I chose to style these in a fashion different from my other dewdrop, in which
I would be able to incorporate not only it's pretty purplish / blue flowers, as
well as it's yellow berries. These hedge extremely well, as I am doing with the
other one... But when one does It will not flower, needs to be able to grow
out a bit.

The pot posted is what I will be transferring it into this spring.

Here is what my other Dewdrop looks like now...
Just took this today.
Thought I would post a couple of pics of this seeing that
I was referring to it in my original post for this thread.

I would love to work on those dewdrops but it will probably be an entire season after we move in December before I will have the Tropical Indoor setup complete. Until mid summer that room will just house all of the items used to store the Tropicals this winter on temporary tables. Those come in a few varieties as well - 2 maybe three colors?

The original tree is really getting nice. Just need a bit maturity of branches and it will be a killer tree.

I like the pot but the new tree style is not working for me. The live vein is too straight. Some movement could have been integrated during the carving IMHO.

I am not suggesting you not try... But these are not really a tropical,
and I would think that you might run into problems with them being
inside... They really need an extreme amount of light. But, give it a shot !!!

Second issue, they take a very long time to get a trunk of any size...
My bigger tree, the one I posted along with this tree, is about a 50 yr old tree
that was grown in the ground for the past 45 plus yrs...

They do come in 2 colors, blue and white... white I have only seen in pics.
Hope this helps...
:)

Understand where you are going...
Not really any more movement I could have gotten out of the carving though.
This was a very straight piece of material to work with...
It will just have to be covered a bit with some foliage,
not much else that can be done, unless I reduced it down to the first
major branch and worked the tree from there adding more movement.

I've done some on similar branches...just nib ovals from the top...create islands of divot like deadwood. Not the best but at least you get some movement. Depending on the tree, it might even roll and heal over. ;)

Not sure if you have enough live vein for it now though. :(

This bigger tree needs to be repotted again this spring...
The roots grow like crazy !!! It needed to be done when I slip
potted it a couple of months ago for showing...

When I do, I will need to cut some of the bottom roots so that
I may sink this tree a little further down into the pot.
