I have a paperbark maple bonsai, which when purchased 2 years ago had bark missing from the base of the tree.
I have recently noticed that there is a rusty tar blemish that has appeared on the other side of base which is the front of the tree.
It presents as a burnt blemish, googling has pointed towards sooty bark disease and wondered if anyone can confirm this, treatment and information appreciated
