I'm hoping to travel to Japan in November for the Taikan-ten in Kyoto. We would be starting in Tokyo and making our way down over a few days, hopefully taking in Tokoname on the way. Does anyone have recommendations for potters open to visits or great shops they've visited? Thanks!

I compiled a thread of places to visit with an emphasis on shopping and a section dedicated to Tokoname. I'll also be trying to make Taikan-ten!

I think I went to a place called something like pottery village. A series of shops for multiple potters, a bit out of town. Decent prices. And the wrap things up properly for hand-transport or they ship it for you.

In town itself there are many potters, just make sure you are early, as I found most of them closed very early in the day.

I'd also like to know more about Bonsai pots in Japan. @WEI does have an amazing post on various locations, however, do people have advice on pricing?

Which places tend to have the best prices? Which places overcharge?

I came across an old post from @MACH5 . He posted photos from a place in Omiya bonsai village that had insanely cheap pots. Granted, the post was from 2015...
