You will get reverse taping if you leave it.Yes, that is an option but I feel that is the branch that most contribute to an increase in thickness in that area. So I feel it will continue to get worse if I leave it?

Sorry, I realise I expressed myself really poorly. The one on the right in the picture is the one I feel most contributes to the inverse taper. Which is why I'm thinking maybe both need to go. That one is growing very strong so has become quite thick. You will get reverse taping if you leave it.
Yes, I think so.The one on the left is growing on the inside of a curve so I guess that is why you feel that one should go?
Did you have a nightfrost? I have a bunch of maples that were surprised mid last week and froze up.So I have some rather worrisome news, a couple weeks ago just as new growth was pushing he suddenly went into „sulk mode“ for no reason. The ironwood right next to him hasn’t missed a beat and usually they sulk together. Both are outside now but whereas ole Ironsides is waving his green leaves about quite happily….mr (B)eing (R)andomly (T)roublesome is still bare bones.
I hope he is just „playing“ dead
No he was playing dead before he went outside.Did you have a nightfrost? I have a bunch of maples that were surprised mid last week and froze up.
For me it just makes no sense, the brazilIan ironwood sat right next to it is thriving. There has been no temperature, light or water difference between the two yet one is strong and thriving and the other is dead as a doornail. I can only think there was some unseen parasite involved but then why is it‘s neighbor absolutely fine?
Are you positively sure it's dead? I've had one sit for six months without any growth and then it just started growing. I wouldn't give up on it too quickly. For me it just makes no sense, the brazilIan ironwood sat right next to it is thriving. sad
We‘ll see but it’s just very dead looking twigs….Are you positively sure it's dead? I've had one sit for six months without any growth and then it just started growing. I wouldn't give up on it too quickly.
Oh noo! But I recall that you have other brts? I think you mentioned that you took cuttings. So I believe he is officially dead, really no idea what happened there at all I should have tried to make some cuttings last trim but nevermind.
No I didn’t make cuttings, that was another from this thread. . I should have tried it but I had too many cutting from other things at the time and didn’t have space. More fool me.Oh noo! But I recall that you have other brts? I think you mentioned that you took cuttings.
Fingers crossed that it survives as the weather warms up further.
My BRT doesnt fully drop all of his leaves. He does sulk a little when i change the environment, like moving his spot so i try my best to not change anything.
I hope your BRT pulls through if not I can try to take some cuttings for you from mine although i cannot seem to root them.
OR perhaps you persuade Jelle to part with some again!
Not everyone lives in Brazil, lol. I did finally have some luck with cuttings last summer. One of my son's friends expressed interest in them, so I gave him one and it is doing well. They root easily from cuttings around here. Almost 90% is the success rate.
