Well, my bougies are getting beat up a little so far this winter. They caught a draft and dropped their leaves but I relocated them and they seem to be recovering. I'm going to need more practice wiring/bending these. At least they root easily.
  1. IMG_6624.JPG There is a hint of a bend where the trunk crosses the edge of the pot. I think I want it bent back on itself in a fairly tight hairpin, then twisting back out into a semi-cascade. I plan to put it in a mesh pot to add some size in the spring.
  2. IMG_6625.JPG IMG_6626.JPG This one is a bit thicker around the trunk. It just "donated" the top 6 inches or so to a new cutting. A grow pot is probably in it's future.
  3. IMG_6627.JPG This guy just keeps growing. My first "accidental" cutting that rooted. I'm not sure what to do, other than move it up to a bigger pot. Also, a lovely view of Parkdale in winter.
  4. IMG_6630.JPG This is a happy little guy... just letting him grow for now. Might make a mame or shohin so I can have something in a bonsai pot.
  5. IMG_6628.JPG The long suffering mother plant, slowly recovering from the cold draft. More cuttings and a repot into better soil in the spring. I want to layer or do cuttings of the trunk once the weather starts improving.

Nice little set of Bougies.
I'll be keen on seeing your progress here as I have a couple of small ones in the ground that are a bit like your longer cuttings and a much larger one that I will dig at some point so I'm definitely eager to see what you are doing to them.

Hey! I just used that same friggin tote lid for my pics in The New 2018 vault!

Nice!

These are beautiful....I'm glad I can't find any!

++UPDATE++
I ordered some BOUGAINIMG_6631.JPG from American Amazon to try on these guys (exchange rate is getting bad... won't be too much buying from the US for a while)
I'll post some update pics over the next little while to see if anything cool happens.

As an aside, I noticed this on the package, from the regrettable logo choice department: IMG_6632.JPG
I'm probably on some sort of watch list now.

++UPDATE++
Day 3 of Bougain - Some old buds are starting to swell, and the existing leaves seem to have greened up a bit (some of them were a bit on the yellow side)

++UPDATE++
30 days of BOUGAIN:
  1. IMG_0072.JPG Improvement is debatable - it's gotten longer but dropped some leaves. New buds are breaking lower down. Less than pencil thin. Needs a bigger pot to beef up.
  2. IMG_0067.JPG Greened up and put on some new growth. It started draining slower so I think it's a bit root bound. Re-pot soon.
  3. IMG_0074.JPG Whoosh! This one is taking off. It's started drooping from the weight. I was hoping it would put on some girth but not really. I think I'll start taking cuttings and pushing it back to manageable size.
  4. IMG_0068.JPG Green! Pink! Leaves! Happy guy!
  5. IMG_0073.JPG Good ol' momma plant. Needs a transplant out of the potting mix, and start taking off cuttings and pushing the growth in and down on the trunk.
  6. IMG_0071.JPG No before of this guy, I think he came off Momma after the last shots were taken. I should probably start clipping and puching the growth back in before it gets goofier looking.

Nice Beav...

They are looking healthy....

What's the NPK on that Bougain?
Like 16-7,342-10?

What's the NPK on that Bougain
Oddly, it's only 6-8-10, plus minor elements. The pellets are smaller than most ferts I've seen. One of them is really small, like poppy seeds.

This winter has been pretty mild for Toronto so far, I'm tempted to start working on them, but I know that February and March can be a real bitch sometimes. My solarium does start to get cold if the outside temps drop too much.

Mine is the opposite....
When it's cold out...
The heat stays on more...
And dries everything out.

Note!
