I've had an issue with birds picking at the top of the bonsai soil. Has anyone found a good solution for keeping birds away?
 
I put a plastic mesh over the top of the soil. I cut it roughly to the shape of the pot, and a hole for the trunk, of course. It works!

I did the same with aluminum screening and it worked too.

I've also found that top dressing with a layer of turface keeps the birds at bay.
 
Buy the mesh screen for windows and cut into any sizes you want. This is my only solution to keep them from digging since I was using organic fertilizer in tea bags and under the tea bags there were a lot of larvae. This season I'm going to try liquid fertilizer.

I'm trying this one this year.
Not really a repellent, or well.. It repels the life out of them.
 
Crow and a bird of prey on a poll....moved around property every few weeks. Not a live one though lol
