Sounds like a good plan to me. Any ideas or trying on how to convince the tree to pop buds on the middle section of trunk? Is there any ways to direct adventitious budding?

Nope. Time and patience. Unless you want to do another hard chop on the trunk two years from now. Hard pruning is really the only reliable way to induce that kind of budding down the trunk.

And the trunk has pretty good taper as it is for a larger tree. Remove all the suckers before bud break next year and remove all the tip of this years growth and you should be good. That will push the auxin lower and help a bit with lower budding.

Sounds great. The taper in the trunk is really nice so I don't forsee any other hard chops

Welp... The summer heat bested this guy. He was doing great until we kept getting crazy hot weather. Killed him, 2 beeches and a jap maple. Fml this hobby can be tough :-/
