Starting a progression thread on this prostrata juniper I picked up yesterday. It has nice movement and a base about 5/6 inches wide.
I didn't do much today besides repot. Soil was compact and pure clay. The tree was half bare rooted with about 10~15 percent of the roots removed. The tree has many nice fronts, but I decided to choose this one because it has nicer flow and the lower larger branch (labeled 3) at the back can be bent down into place to make our tree. The larger branch in the front (1) will be either jinned or removed completely since it blocks the flow of branch 3. The top branch (2) will be jinned. Though I can probably make a tree with the foliage present, I'm considering grafting kishu or itoigawa.
I'll clean up the foliage tomorrow as it's already getting dark. Side note, the pictures may be a bit deceiving but branches 1 and 3 aren't connected.
