Hey All,

Happy new year! Looking for advice on the best way to balance the two connected branches of a hoop tree im working on. What would you do to try to get either side of the hoop to be the same caliper? Is it as simple as wounding the fatter side?

Yeah, the thinner side needs to catch up to the fatter side. This can be done by slowing the growth/reducing leaf mass of the fatter side and encouraging growth of leaves on the thinner side. The branches that are on the hoop of the thinner side might cause some unevenness of your hoop in the long run too. Looks good though! Nice job

Yeah. Prune the growth up top that's coming from the fatter side, and let the growth from the thinner side grow freely until it catches up. Remove the growth that's on the hoop. It'll make it uneven.
