Just got into bonsai and decided to get another plant for sale at the end of the season I am new tell me if you think the following regimen is a problem?:

1. training pot (filter in the bottom) with 1/3 gravel at the bottom, miracle grow soil/sand mixture/a little gravel mixed in too.

2 cut off 2/3 of root ball save a few roots to loop to the top if needed later

3. plant and water

4. prune a little bit to cut off excess and allow air and sun to permeate

5. leave outside in sun and shade mix.
5b. can you see the root over the rock in the first figure?

6. put a diaper on the plant for the winter (my wife said this because I am just getting into bonsai and she is worried I will spend more time with the plants!)IMG_3066.JPG

This plant does not look healthy enough to reduce the rootball by 2/3. Also maybe a coarser soil mix.
