Any idea what this is on a Dwarf Schefflera leaves?

I found some weird growth on the top of five of the leaves. Nothing weird underneath the leaf. It's not sticky, doesn't smell, and nobody wanted to try tasting it.



Trying to scratch it off just ripped the leaf.

I did find & remove some scale bugs a few months ago, and was wondering if these may be eggs, afterbirth, or feces, just speculation on my part.

The position of the leaves would make that difficult, but not impossible. I've seen that with ficus and when I did it took me a second when I saw it because I thought it was bird poop. This stuff is more like gorilla glue. Good thinking though.
