Last Summer, some wayward squirrel, cat, opossum, or maybe just the wind knocked this juniper off the bench, breaking the trunk in half and damaging the vein that fed 95% of the branches. I tried to repair it with some epoxy and screws, it didn't work and everything died except one branch.

I decided today to try to salvage it. Trimmed off all of the dead stuff, took off all of bark - side note the bark come off much easier when it is green. Lime sulphured all of it .

The remaining branch will be trained as a cascade. I hope to wire it soon.

Such a shame to have so much of it die off from one mishap.. But, honestly, this looks like it will be very cool in the long run. Best of luck with it, I'll look forward to the progress!

You've turned this into something that has a sort of otherworldly feel to it, like it came right out of an eerie storybook. It's odd, it's unusual, and it's spectacular. I hope this recovers and develops into an even more interesting and healthy tree. Keep us updated!

Have you considered using some raffia and bending that branch back in to the trunk? It would be cool to make the tree engage with the deadwood more. That branch is so thin it makes the cascade look a bit weak.

All options are on the table, cascade was what i initially thought, but now ya got me thinking.

Procumbus Nana. Not sure what communis is, I guess it could be, I have seen junipers called all sorts of things on B nut over the years.
Juniperus communis is the Common Juniper. It's a needle juniper. I thought yours might be a nana, but I couldn't quite make out enough of those distinctive bumps on the bark. Maybe I need better glasses.
