Visited a local nursery and they had a very long JBP whip I kept walking by a few times. I brought it home and worked on it a few times, left it alone for a day or two, and kept walking around it every time I went downstairs to the basement to grab something. Leaving it alone for a little bit helped, every time I came back, I looked at it with sort of fresh eyes, so I made some revisions. Here's what I settled on.

This looks great .. this is really tough literati isn’t easy because if I were to do this.. I would have wrapped raffia where that “tape” currently is.. and used a rebar or something to copper wire and add more acute turns.. but great material and gonna be a great bonsai

Thanks for the insight. I really would have wanted that. I'll have to come back to it at another time in the future. I really like your suggestion.

Yeah just anchor the copper wire at the rebar and raffia the entire length so it doesn’t bite too hard or put rebar higher up .. you’ll also want to invert the bend so instead of turning inward.. twist with the wire then bend but that is precarious which is why raffia will help.

Just reading the Literati book by Master Qingquan and I'm trying to get a feel for this style. Seems that the trunks are narrow to the top (not taper) and high with bends towards the peak. Will be watching this thread with interest...:cool::cool:

You probably noticed, there's a crack that formed and I had to apply the wire splint with grafting tape to allow me to continue further with this design.

I'm feeling antsy, there isn't a reason why I can't do this bend now. I'll raffia it up and apply the rebar and rework this and report back.
