Looking forward to it. Have you had it long?
Lol I looked at that tree for several minutes and could not pull the trigger.
Hey, I'm not even in the picture, never mind on the left!!....yes it should go but I'd probably layer it off. They had a couple of big elms... this one is going to require work but it has decent roots. All the branches have to go though, and possibly that knob on the left.

Ok, buds pop in Feb, and close proximity to a bonsai nursery? I'm moving into your basement.
A big reason to live somewhere cold... I couldn't live without my trees that need chill hours!I just can't keep cold hardy trees
But I guess it has it's advantages too...this is bonsai paradise. There are tons of options in the LA area...

How close are you to ONT? I have to fly in next week for a quick trip to Fort Irwin.I cried when I moved and had to leave behind my favorite white pine as well as oaks and northern maples... sad day...
San Gabriel Nursery sells coast live oaks. They started to put some funky spiral, s-curves ones that are okay but in their understock training area I saw a lot of pre-bonsai oak in training. If you ask Mr. Ishii or some of the staff I'm sure they'd pull some out to sell.I cried when I moved and had to leave behind my favorite white pine as well as oaks and northern maples... sad day...
