Announcing the 2023 Superfly New Talent Contest!
- Have you been involved with the art of bonsai for fewer than 10 years?
- Are you coming to the 2023 ABS Learning Seminar in Denver Colorado, June 8-11?
Visit absbonsai.org/new-talent-contest for details on how to enter. Finalists will style a provided tree and the headline artists will judge the completed bonsai. The results will be announced at the banquet on Saturday night. The winner will receive $1000 towards study with a bonsai professional of his or her choice. The runner up and third-place finisher will receive vouchers for $500 and $250, respectively, for any product at Superfly Bonsai.

I plan on being there as well!Im so excited for this! I'd love to do a meetup with any folks who can make it. Looks like @Colorado and @ShadyStump and I will all be attending.
Stay tuned - the location of the ABS learning seminar changes every year.I wish we had stuff like this on east coast
So the Vendor area is open to the public (no ticket required)? That's kinda cool.Wompwomp, looks like we are not going. We only have so much headspace and time and unfortunately this show won’t work out. They are accepting vendor applications right now though with payment roughly due Feb. 1st. I think the tables are only $100, and the vendor event is open to the public! Vending is from 9 am to 8 pm, very long hours! So sounds like a possibly lucrative weekend.
I'm tempted to fly in for it, but I'd want to do at least 1 tree workshop if I'm going to make the trip. Then how to get the tree back with me...
I assume it's very doable to pack a shohin-sized tree in a carry on. Anyone have ideas for larger trees?
Road trip? St. Louis isn’t TOO far!
Carol, we could split driving duties! It's too far for me.
I can't stand sitting in a car for more than like 3 hours and I have no sense of direction and would get us totally lost.Carol, we could split driving duties!
You would not have made it on my family christmas roadtrips. We would drive a whole day from Denver to central nebraska, and then a whole day from Nebraska to Wisconsin... 8 or so hours eachI can't stand sitting in a car for more than like 3 hours and I have no sense of direction and would get us totally lost.
No, I wouldn't. That sounds like a nightmare. You would not have made it on my family christmas roadtrips.
