Acer buergerianum 'Miyasama kaede yatsubusa' or 'Miyasama yatsubusa'

So I started training on a bonsai pot, but not really concentrating on any specific direction. I have managed to Air Layer a tall branch off of this mother tree (on the pot), which is over 6 feet tall now and another one (on the ground) with larger leaves grown from a cutting (out of many, one survived that became this over time). I attribute the larger leaves off of the field grown ones to extra nutrition of course.

Here's a nifty idea I had the other day. Has anyone tried grafting this subspecies to a normal trident maple? Assuming it would take, I'm curious if it would become more vigorous.

I have access a large specimen of this tree. Not a bonsai but a full-size tree. While it seeds profusely, probably 95-99% of the seeds are infertile. But I found you can quickly determine which are fertile by crushing the seeds between two fingers. The infertile ones are hollow and crush easily. I did this with hundreds if not a thousand seeds and was able to collect 30-40 that seemed fertile. All of them sank in water and half a dozen have sprouted after a couple months in the fridge.
