I picked up this -Minnesota native- today from the Minnesota bonsai Society silent auction.
No one was bidding on it as it was tucked away in the back and well,,…pretty darn ugly.

Anyways , I got this beautifully barked but very problematic hawthorn.

IMG_2577.jpegIMG_2578.jpegthe inverse taper is pretty bad, worse than I thought.
The dead top needs a chop and carve.

Removed the wire.

Then pruned back to get a better idea. IMG_2581.jpegIMG_2582.jpegWow. So ugly. Rewire and trunk chop. IMG_2585.jpegIMG_2586.jpegIMG_2588.jpeg
And a bad photo of the direction I’m going after cuttin down the dead stump.
So far, a fun but difficult puzzle.

I like this tree for the price you paid, we don't see too many of those here.

Lots of potential plus reverse taper and a bargain pricetag - youre lucky you saw it before me!

Thanks man. We will see what I can do with it.
