Ok, so like I said, late to the party but super stoked to be here.

Had a lot of ideas but decided to go down to these two trees. Figured eventually one of the two will become my favorite and be my contest entry, but will be documenting both for the time being.

Baby Jeffrey Bridges AKA The Little Dude
Started these guys in September 2020 and did the cuttings around Mid-October.

I’ll introduce the other contestants in another post!!!

Seedling cutting technique worked well on your Jeffery pines. Short distance to the needles. Nice. Good roots too.

Nice movement in the oaks.
Yeah dude it was a pretty successful run!!! The Plant Gods were kind to me on this one. Handling it pretty well in a bonsai soil, gotten up to 116, Central Californian summer…. Knock on wood🤞🏼

did you do one of these posts in this contest?

How's your boy blue doing?

I've got some coast live oak I planted last fall and I just planted valley oak acorns. Hoping to get my hands on a blue oak at some point.

You west coast nuts have some great oaks to work with. I have a scrub oak from out there that is supposed to do ok here. It is a tiny thing right now.

I can collect some acorns and send some your way but I think the season has passed already. I can also see how many seedlings I have left, I gave about 10 away last year but I wouldn’t mind shooting one to you. They are descendent from a big beautiful blue oak.

Blue is doing great, just being fed and getting ready for our chilly winters.

Little mid spring update. Not a lot to report, but the Jeffrey Pine is pushing out some new growth and Lil’ Smurf has his new growth and a little more shape to him. I think I may have killed “you’re my boy blue” with a too aggressive root prune. So I opted to not work on the roots of Smurf.
