32 year old Acer Rubrum

I've changed my mind about the pot. Just did the last firing and ......... I think this is one of the best I've produced, especially out of an electric kiln!

What glazes did you use on that pot? I bet it looks even better in person

It does look better in person. It looks better on my desktop. Bnut loses color somehow. I can look at both images on my desktop and there is definitely a difference.

It’s actually two glazes. The one on top is a wood ash glaze that I use clay from my pond along with feldspar, wood ash and black iron.

I did not know you did pottery . Great looking pot . Here’s what bonsai has taught me about pottery . A quality bonsai pot is worth the price reasonably charged . For a hand made work of art . Most quality potters deliver very well made great pots . The only other thing I’ve learned is . The art form looks like a long steep learning curve . That is most likely as addictive as bonsai . 🤷‍♂️😂 I get frustrated at the lack of pots available. Especially in larger sizes here . But hats off to the creators . I think I would be throwing things at the wall in short order if I started .

Thanks for the info inspiring . Makes you want to get one you don’t have a tree for . Just so you can grow a tree that’s worthy of it

Looks great in the new pot. Please remind me how tall the tree is.

Great timeline story with pics about this Maple… feel free to keep them coming! I don’t have a Red Maple bonsai, but around 2001 I did plant a 5 gallon RM in the yard to shade the house from the afternoon sun, which it does very well now. The blooms on that big tree in spring are very red. The fall color isn’t great due to being so far south. Thanks for the pics/story.

This is one of my favorite bonsai of all. I am enamored of the fact that it is a native and shames many imports. Someday I will see this plant in person, so to speak. I hope it is this year.
Thanks Rob. Looking forward to it. It will be a harmonic convergence!!

@ABCarve driving to work today it dawned on me, that your maple had yellow fall color. As far as a i can remember ruburm turns a brilliant scarlet red (its namesake) around me. It might be the most beautiful tree in eastern PA in that season. Does yours typically show yellow coloring or is it red most years?
the name comes from the red buds that cover the tree in early spring
