1st big cut!

WOW! I've never seen anything like that Cosmic style before! Very interesting. I love your JM almost has a sinister but beautiful look at the same time.

Yes I have stepped away from the starting line 😄 love it.

Thanks for sharing @Cadillactaste
That artistic scarification...on a deciduous tree. Where we are taught to seek a flawless trunk. I think had me at hello. Laurent Darrieux has a very artistic/chaos style. I do love it. His student Herve Dora less confusion in the branch structure. I'm looking for a complimentary mesh of the two with my own. Time will tell... it may lean more chaos. Lol but I'm placing branches with purpose of a still somewhat triangular canopy that soothes me.

Thanks on the kind words of the maple. Martin Doen was the creator of building that trunk from rootstock. Grafting...pure genius. I can't believe it ended up on my bench. A true honor.

I was so proud of you. When you created this thread. You are going to do amazingly well...in the hobby for yourself. Just wait and see. 😉 I'll enjoy cheering you on from the sidelines.

Yeah it's very cool i like! I'll check out Laurent Darrieux and his students work for sure.

No worries. I look forward to seeing how yours turns out, it's already stunning mind. I think it's an Awesome interesting tree. well done you.

Ahh thanks! I'm enjoying it and my time on here.

Happy growing @Cadillactaste

Frank... I must be weak. That brought a huge smile...and damp eyes. Yes... goes to show, merit doesn't bend to all the rules. Sometimes... (((gasp))) they can be broken. Loved the share! I'm more about presence and character ... end of the day. I only need to please myself. Hats off to ya. For sharing this one. Literally ... made...my...night! 😁
I bet all women love a pregnant tree ;)

... proper head tilt. When I go into overthinking mode.

No... I find that some flaws, are wet behind the ears mentality... to seriously get hung up on. When in nature it happens.

Kokufo the Japan show...had trees with inverse taper. So what does that say? It says a lot in my humble opinion what ones choose to righteously bulk at. It's wet behind the ears mentality. Something one can easily call out and feel...what? Some high faluten better than thou mindset? I see ... a FLAW!

I find it annoying...quite honestly. To point out such flaws in a tree. When it's become acceptable in the eyes of many.

Please accept my apologies. That was the whole point, it being part of the most appreciated bonsai show of the world.

Ahhh. Missed that.

No worries. I'm sick...but coming down on lower dose of taper of steroids. So literal brain thinker with less brain fog. But I don't get jokes at all. Or rarely.

Next repotting, you should attack the nebari. You could do a ground layer and dramatically adjust the angle of the roots to emphasize the serpentine nature of the movement?
Consider for Spring of ‘27 maybe; To let it pick up some steam?

A less adventuresome option would be to remove the two large roots in stages, and cover with spaghnum and plant deeper, to redevelop finer rootage.

Cheers for the advice. Yeah I think a ground layer above those two heavy roots is the way to go for sure. I may try go for 2026 air layer then separate and replant 2027 at a right tilt to emphasize the trunk movement and bring the lower pads level. Once the new roots are set I can rebuild the crown to suit the new trunk angle.

If you are open to improving the nebari, then the next logical step would be to consider moving the air layer up to deal with the inverse taper perhaps.

There seems to be some reverse taper in that s curve. If it were upto me, I would chop back further leaving only the first branch on the right, and then bend it up a little to make it the new leader. And probably remove the growing tip to encourage back budding, to get newer branches
I don't understand what reverse taper is. Could you please explain?

I don't understand what reverse taper is. Could you please explain?
A position on the trunk or branch where the upper portion is thicker than the lower portion just below it. In developing trees it is desirable to have both taper and movement. Normal growth patterns have the trunk or branching becoming smaller as it develops. Larger at the base and becoming smaller towards the top or outer extremities in the case of branching.
When reverse taper exists in the trunk it can often be selected as a good position to chop and start over if keeping the lower portion, or a good spot to airliner if choosing to work with the upper portion.
Of course, one can airlayer to improve and use the top portion and retain the lower portion for further development. Success rate keeping and using both portion is improved if there is a lower branch remaining on the bottom portion as well.
Hope the comments help.
