Bonsai Nut
Nuttier than your average Nut
Stacy I'm not sure that the rant was needed. All you had to say was "I think you are mistaken about Eric's trees..." or whatever. It's his opinion, and he is welcome to it, and if it is based on incorrect information point it out. But it sounds to me like you are having a bad day or something.
As far as California trees go, I wasn't making a comparison, I was stating a fact. I used to live in the MidWest and travel extensively. I've been to bonsai nurseries from Maine to Florida, Washington to California, Texas, Illinois, Georgia... and who knows where else. It's just a question of supply and demand. California has more bonsai enthusiasts, has more bonsai nurseries, is closer to the East, etc. The size of the market and competition, in my opinion, help to keep prices down. That's all. Not saying California has BETTER trees. Not saying California has BETTER VALUE trees (at least not universally). I'm just saying you can buy a tree here for $700 that would put the trees in the photo to shame. Because you can. You can also buy a lot of junk, too, because there is a lot of that available as well.
It sounds like you are saying you can buy a tree in Florida for $700 that would put those trees to shame, too. Excellent! I was never trying to say "we're better than you" I was simply posting my experience because... I live in California.
