Have been searching forever for this cultivar, but to no avail. The few promising leads/nurseries are all sold out or won't sell them. Really been wanting to get one for a while now, even if it's a smaller less developed tree. If anyone is willing to sell, please let me know.
Look at what I found in a planter. Those are centimeters, not inches. Anyone guess the cultivar name? Cause I have no idea. The plant was about 1.4 meters tall, with very low graft union if any. Trunk was maybe 7cm diameter, from memory.
I had some bad experience with Osakazuki and I want to avoid ordering cultivars with similar leathery leaves etc. ( I have thrown mine away so no pictures).
But since I order online I may notice too late.
So Im asking what other cultivars do you know of that are closely related to Osakazuki...
Hello all,
I am new to the forum. I have grown to love and appreciate the Acer species from my time working in a Botanical Garden. Enjoying browsing the site so far! Started collecting plants for bonsai and training 2 years ago. I am excited to learn from and share with you all.
Grabbed this...
--- Overview and Goals ---
I have a Shishigashira, currently growing as a landscape tree, that I want to continue to field grow with the intention to turn into bonsai in the future. The trunk of this tree is 2". I'd like to keep it in the ground another few years to thicken the trunk and develop...
I've started training this maple about 3 years ago. It was a grafted cultivar. First season I ground layered it. The second season of having it, I put it on a board. No nails to spread out roots, just screwed to a board and left to grow. Third season, I skipped work. Just too busy with things...
Hello,
I picked up a new Maple from Bobby. We are unconfirmed on exact cultivar, so please do have a few guesses if you like.
I expect maybe next spring, as the leaves emerge and mature, will give more info. We do suspect 1 cultivar but I will not say it, and see what people guess :)

I purchased this tree earlier this summer from a woman on Craigslist. She couldn't remember which type of Japanese Maple it was. What do you think it is?
Thanks in advance :)

Hello, I am new to Bonsai and have been doing a ton of research and have gathered my materials and have even shaped a couple of small beginner trees. My question is about my Japanese maple I was gifted. I need help getting the trunk to thicken and establishing a strong nebari. I got over zealous...
Hi everyone!
I just came back from a tree nursery with this rather large Acer palmatum shishigashira. They had a lot of japanese maples for 'garden use' in stock and I remembered this cultivar being used for bonsai. It was on sale, so I didn't really hesitate.
The base and cultivar was what...
I’ve got 10 of these right outside my dorm.
I never really bothered with them but now I’m getting curious whether I could pull it off.
Now, I figured it might be too hot but then I remembered that if you pot a tree it jumps down 2 zones. I can clearly see that the trees that get some afternoon...
Hi, I'm in south UK zone 9 and recently bough a neglected Acer palmatum over rock repoted 2-3 years ago on river pebbles? I'm thinking to continue strengthen it and repot in early spring on akadama and kiryu removing the fern but I'm afraid is beyond salvation! What would you do? particularly...
I wired this trunk while still on the parent tree and removed it about three years ago. I’ve had it at a friends the whole time and missed repotting it every year. I’ll repot it next spring. This fall I want to cut it back to the primary branches and grow the leader out to thicken the top...
Hello,
So here we are again! But this time, there will be action.
I've had a few threads on my Maple so far, which Ill reread again any way but I wanted to start a fresh here just for organisation purposes.
The previous comments on threads, have not gone to waste, don't worry. TImes changes...
Hi everybody,
Love BonsaiNut and all the information that can be found here. I'm a beginner looking to get into the bonsai world. At this point, I have a couple of Tamarind seedlings started from 0, a Ficus Microcarpa that I have received as a gift and a Ficus Benjamina Kinky, a small one that...
I found this maple on a local classifieds website for $35. It seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up. I have never done a trunk chop before, but I think that is what this needs to get some taper going. This tree is also in urgent need of a repotting as the soil is quite poor, and there...
Treeeeeeessssss!!!!!!! hehehehehe its been a nice day today and the sun has finally came out to play... so me and my little assistent took the chance to water our little trees... hope everybody has a nice day... wifey is preparing some sushi for our dinner.... hehehehehe bonsai and sushi...
I'm sure this has been done many times, but here's the idea:
I got a couple weird Japanese maple varieties on clearance at a garden center. Both were grafted and both had long whips of the rootstock extending just below the graft.
Last year I cut them below the graft so that the long whip...
This is another Japanese maple I've started from seedlings collected in 2012. The form will be clump, but maybe I'll find a way to sumo the tree if the base starts to fuse together really well. I'm intending to add a fifth trunk for balance.
