You wanna hear about my New off the wall plan to kill bugs?

You fallers know how a gravity bong works right? Duh!

So....you take a bunch of DE, dust too, actually, only large particles and dust if you can sift out the middle....

Put it in a larger pot than your tree, put your tree in that pot, and fill around the sides with said bigs and dust.....

Wrap a bag around the top with a tiny hole at the top to let air escape......

Then you gravity bong it....

The dust, the real fine dust, Will waft up through all the cracks and crevices of your tree, and dry out all the God Damn mites.

No.....

I haven't tried it, but.......

I will this year!

I think real bad infestations can be wiped out like this....

Just wash the tree free of dust later...

It's great stuff. Durable. Holds water decently. Keeps bugs away. I just wish the particle size was a tad larger.
I've been pleased with the particle size of this brand:

It's a bit spendy at about $1 a pound, but it is free of fines, mostly about 1/8" particles, and includes a fair amount of 3/8" particles. It can be ordered for delivery. I buy it from retailers who carry this local brand.

After we use the gravity bong we can strain the de thru a sock with water and make a spray for all the trees on our benches. I do like your idea but thats a lot of parachutes to make around my trees

I hope you don't have that many bugs!

Just a kill all for every now and then.

Some seeds gathered from my potted maples. There were not very many so I thought "Let's plant them, anyway there's very little chance that they look like the true species/cultivar"

Tonight, I will repot these two that are probably from Acer shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon':

This one is maybe from an A. p. 'Atropurpureum' (it looks much more red in "real life"):

... and more to come in 2018! (?)

A. p. palmatum (plain species):

A. p. 'Crispifolium' (not sure of the name though):

A. p. 'Seiryu':

Bought 10,000 JBP seeds last month, a few weeks ago my wife asked if she could start some of them early. Wouldn't you know it, 100% germination. Never have i been able to pull that off. Asked her for her trick, she said lemon juice. Anyways...... 252 of what will likely be 10,000 JBP from seed for 2017.

You gotta be a shop or have some kinda warehouse for that many seeds right?
And my wisteria are on 90% germination so far, only 10 of them but I didn't think I would get 9, so Im rather happy.

Not a shop, no warehouse. Got 4 pole buildings though. Just a propagation addict. Trying to get enough in the field that in 25+ years from now my now 3yr. old daughter has an endless supply of stock to keep our garden project alive.

I haven't seen anything from the Ginkgo seeds yet. Does anyone know when they typically sprout? I'm wondering if I should be worried yet or if I'm jumping the gun.
