Winter Bonsai 2024, Kannapolis, NC (outside of Charlotte) December 7 & 8, 2024

Hi John, my name is Jacob. I'm a Triangle Bonsai Society member Steve asked to help with the social media this year. I'll be sure to introduce myself in person in December.
Great! Nice to speak with you Jacob! I appreciate your efforts to help grow and improve the show!!

Quick update... there are still a handful of seats available for Saturday night's banquet. I'll be there - as well as several other site members. Don't be shy!

nice debating going since I won’t be able to go out west this year . Started a new position at my job..
The dumb jock in me would like to see a bonsai show exhibition like the playoffs.. and have the national show or west show be their respected championships .. but that would be damn near impossible

Before that could happen, we would need a national league of bonsai clubs :) Right now, it is extremely difficult to maintain the bonsai clubs that we have - for many reasons.

As promised some more tiny tree goodness for your viewing pleasure. This next one is from a long time member of BN, but I believe may have recently left the platform? Mr. Adair Martin with this top tier japanese white pine. As always, so masterfully photographed by Joe Noga. MARTIN 112409 copy 3.jpg

We are all aware of the heart breaking devastation in Western NC, is the show still on?
I hope this does not sound crass, just looking for an answer.

The damage from the storm was fortunately limited to the mountain areas in the western part of the state. Charlotte didn't have any damage that I am aware of. We are about an hour north of Charlotte and we got moderate wind and rain but nothing like what they got two hours drive to the west.

A word from our show organizer, Steve Zeisel:

This is the final update before the show. I am looking forward to seeing all of you there. We have a great group of trees (about 70) for you to see, and a large group of vendors to sell you trees, pots, stands and bonsai supplies. Info on who will be exhibiting and vending is on the website (link below).

If you have not been to the show before, the space is exceptional. The trees are displayed in a 4-story dome that is lined in Carrara marble (from the quarry that Michelangelo got the marble for scuplting David).

The show opens Saturday morning at 10 AM. Admission is free.
That day there will be a free demonstration at the far end of the larger Vendor room
by Rodney Clemons at 10 AM
by William Valavanis at 2 PM
and by Mark Comstock at 4 PM

There is an auction at 5:30 PM that is open to everyone. It is held in the same location as the demos. Auction items are on display Saturday afternoon and the rear of the demo area (Vendors please put them in the display area earlier in the day Saturday). Each vendor donates an item that you can bid on and all the proceeds support the costs for putting on the show. Cash, checks and credit cards are OK. I hope that you bid and win great bonsai stuff. As you can imagine, organizing a show like this, with no admission-exhibition-vendor fees, costs thousands of dollars and this auction helps to defray much of this expense.

For those of you with reservations there is a dinner banquet at 7 PM (sorry this has been sold out, but check with Susan at the tables vending Quilts during the day to see if there is someone looking to sell their seat).

Sunday morning William Valavanis does a critique of the trees at 8:30 AM in the exhibition area. This is usually crowded, so please let the exhibitor get to the front when their tree is discussed. Awards are announced at the end of the critique (This year there are awards for the Best deciduous, conifer, tropical trees, and for the best display).
The show opens to the public at 10 AM.
On Sunday there will be a free demonstration
by Tyler Sherrod at 10 AM.
People's Choice Award will be announced at 2 PM.
The show closes at 3 PM

There is no food at the show site, but there are numerous restaurants in walking distance. There are also several pubs and a store that sells candy.

Please tell anyone you know with an interest in bonsai that they need to come to the show. Forward this message to them. There is nothing that makes the exhibitors and vendors happier than seeing large crowds. Saturday gets pretty busy, but Sunday usually has lighter traffic. That means that vendors are going to be more flexible on pricing.

Vendors and exhibitors, you should have gotten an email from me with information on where you will be located, and when to setup on Friday. If not contact me asap

Thanks for all of your support for the show. I also want to give special thanks to Marianne Lauer, who this year is helping with arrangements for the Banquet and the Auction. She does a terrific job. I also need to give special thanks to Joe Noga, who again is photographing all of the exhibited trees (each exhibitor gets a jpeg of their trees taken by the best bonsai photographer in America).

See you in December.

Steve Zeisel

Safe travels @JudyB, I'm about to get on the road myself soon. I'm in the vendor room to the right same as the demos. First two tables to the left, middle isle as you immediately enter.
