I’m not certain on the die-back. I know that they do not respond well to typical deciduous pruning/pinching in my experience…

It only really pushes growth once in the spring.

Repot time. This tree has been in the struggle bus for the last year, a couple big cold snaps caused bad dieback and it whimpered along last year. I’m hopeful new soil and some more room to grow in the pot does the trick.
