Yes, it's a tree Dan Robinson collected from a lowland bog on northern Vancouver Island long ago. It's actually the tree I went to look at to buy that prompted the call that started my writing/photographing/publishing my biography and retrospective of his work Gnarly Branches - Ancient Trees. When I got it it was simply an ungainly, gangly-looking tree, but the branches are very malleable, and it was a great joy to style.
