What do you have on the soil? They aren't rocks are they? They're nutrient cakes of some sort right? If so what kind you using. Just got into using hem myself. I'm using sumo cakes right now
@Bonsaikev1985 sorry this took me longer than I wanted to to get back to you. I found this great video on YouTube on how to make fertilizer cakes this is what I use on my trees. It's worked really well so far although I ended up removing them from my azalea, it needs different fertilizer.
