If you have $12,000, this is a pretty nice Scots pine in a Horst Heinzlreiter pot. Shipping is only $500 to the east coast... 😁

Looks more like a swing and a miss 🤣
I don’t think it’s a miss necessarily, but I think it’s a clear case where the art is made more special by the accompanying statement. 😂

Looks like it has a great future in the right hands! Definitely not mine yet. One day I’ll feel comfortable with material on that level.

The weird thing for me with living art is that it could die any time for no apparent reason... left alone costing this much. Even if I can afford it, I wouldn't buy it.

The tree is beautiful. However, I have no idea what makes it worth $12,500. I know who Ryan is and I'm not saying it isn't worth that price. Can someone walk through what makes this tree so expensive (other than provenance)? This is a request for an education, not a criticism of the tree or price.

I'm not in the market for this kind of tree, nor do I have the money. Just curious.

If you go by their website that is a $1-2k pot. So that is some of it. If you were to buy the raw material from Randy, $2-3k??? Ryan’s hourly rate is $1500 a day? You figure a couple days to repot, wire/style over the life of the tree since he has had it. Just my guess.

That helps make some sense of it. It's like anything else, whatever the market will bear... I would have to re-roof my house or replace my HVAC with that money before spending on a tree. Of course, I love $200K Ferraris and Porsches too...:cool::cool:

I enjoy the design and the Mirai vibe in general. In all honesty he’s creating trees for a certain customer and that’s not most of us. I think that’s OK - his trees and educational endeavors only help the practice.

One day, if things line up, I’d love to own a Mirai tree if only to be part of the provenance.

Of course, I could have one of his trees before I could get a Ferrari...:D

There is always a constant cevetching about the price of Marai trees, but I won't fault an artist who can sell their art at a price that pays the bills. I heard him comment on a recent podcast that he doesn't haggle with the cerramacits or collectors, he buys and sells their pots at the prices they ask.

Really he is pulling the whole communities price ceiling up, because any other artist or professional in the country can use him as a reference point. I'm certainly not selling any of my trees or selling them for that price, but it definites what is possible.

But only $1,128.30/month from the online loan shark! It would probably be paid off in a mere 30 months! Lol

I need to find a bonsai nursery that has the old K-Mart lay-away program!

These threads seem to gain more traction and interest than the educational/styling videos, which is odd really.
It's human nature though, people just love to have a moan about what they can't afford😁
