Here is a forest group of three Native White Spruce trees in a forest tray. I planted three in the mica tray , and have another 3 for backups. It’s in a akadama and pumice mix. If they do well I will wire them up in the fall. I like the simple arrangement and got them close together. I need to get a back drop to take Better pictures

I like it. But I’d say this is more of a clump than a forest.

Yeah I guess ,my interpretation for clump is originating from same root system to be called a true clump
Yes. You’ve done a great job putting those 3 tight together like that. I jus feel that those bench trees will need to be used to make a forest.

Had healthy buds all over and I used a lot of thinner gauge wire to loosely wire the tips of branches , native white spruce , not the black hills but the Picea Galicia … very flexible branching … here is the end result from multiple angles.. I also have the large tree in the current front .. but both sides looks great (imo) I was taught to wire with a chose front but make all viewing angles pleasing

Very nice, I wouldn't think to clump them together like that but it does look quite natural. There is just something about collected spruce.

I have one I collected from the black hills. A very knowledgeable person told me it may be a true white spruce if it came from a rock face. I have no idea what it actually is. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Is now a good time to wire spruce? I have an englemann that I hate and want to beat on.

Yeah sap flow is slowing down, late September, gives enough time to wire before first frost , or you can always protect it in unheated garage… the buds are already set and growth has long hardened off .. I’d say.

Yeah I'm in ND we're in fall status

Thanks , this is just an initial wiring , still a long ways to develop but the positioning is a good start .. especially the apex for the main tree

More pictures forgot.. to guy wire one of the low branches.. anyway.. here it is for now i tried to capture all the branches it’s a bit busy but I’m going to just keep on bench and see how it develops next years.. I think it would look cool on a slab (big slab guy) or a shallow rectangle. Whatever

Have you tried rotating the pot around so the back will be the front and play with the movements a bit? I just think the tall tree is too tall for it to be in the front.

Yeah I’m not sold on the “front” either which is why I was taking different angle shots / just showing the wiring

Def play around with diff fronts and tree angles...I learned that with forrest or clump the 3D effect is tremendous. Have fun dude!

While my dog was zonked from pain meds after his ligament surgery, I made a rig for the tall tree to get more movement , will add more photos in a bit

Here’s one possible front
