Figured I'd start a progress thread for this tree.

This had to be the toughest yamadori I have collected. It is heavy as heck, definitely the largest tree I have collected. Dug a trench, then used the winch on my side by side to finish extraction. It was probably 15 ft tall before I chopped it back.

I think this will end up being the front, but who knows as it develops so not really worried about it for now. I like the movement.20240206_151305.jpg

Nice Find! Successfully extracting this one must’ve felt darn good.
How excited are you to see this thing shoot out?!😊

That's what she said... sorry I had to. 🤣

Darned thing is so heavy, otherwise I really like the tree. It had so many fine roots, I probably should have made a smaller box though, but next spring I will probably repot it and reduce the root ball and get it into a pot. Hopefully it will also reduce the weight, it is hard to move on my own. From what I have read Honeysuckle roots tend to become rootbound fast and repotting once a year isn't surprising.

It ended up pushing so many buds around the base it looked like it had teenage acne. Had to scratch off all those buds before it turned into a shrub. I didn't take pics of how many there were but if you look close you'll see all of the bumps forming. That was from days ago, didn't think to post.

Finally pushing buds up high now, talk about vigor from a yamadori....sheesh, gonna have to battle with all the buds popping up everywhere.

Looks like I'm going to be vigilant with the bud removal, already scratched off 100+ a few weeks ago, already looking like a teenager with bad acne again.
