I got these two Tamarix a couple years ago. They were growing side by side at one point leaving grooves on the side they were touching each other. The top branches had died. I repotted them in the same pot albeit well separated and just let them grow. I had cut back last month and let them recover. In an effort to create bonsai out of them, I decided to be a bit creative. Although, I couldn’t fuse them together, the remnants of the grooves still persist and there was nothing growing on that side. I managed to combine them together with zip ties and it looks kinda like a twin trunk. Will let this grow for now and revisit when it’s vigorous again.

Sep 2nd 2023 update:

The tree has bounced back and put out plenty of foliage over the summer. Will let it grow and cut back and wire a bit in Fall.
