Last weekend I went to a local nursery here in Chapel Hill, NC that sells a variety of landscape Japanese maples. I was looking for some cool maple varieties with naturally short leaves and short internodes that I could air layer to start as bonsai. While at the nursery I found a variety of Ginkgos, some grafted and some not. Anyways I saw some Ginkgo Biloba 'Chi Chi' plants, I remember reading on the forums here that this is an interesting variety for bonsai and they were ungrafted so I decided to get one.

I want to train this tree into the flame style like @Brian Van Fleet in his Ginkgo from seed progression thread, So I will be using that thread as a guiding point for this tree. Unfortunately ground growing isn't an option for me right now, so I will probably try to pot it into a deep wooden box once it outgrows this container.
