Just got this tree and I am currently trying to decide on the next steps. Would appreciate any advice.

If this was mine I would actually select the primary lines that you want and let those branches thicken up a bit to give you more of a realistic taper to the branches. Might take a season or two but that will set you up for a skeleton that you can build the tree on. Also probably be a good time to set the direction of those primaries as they will be easier to move now
