Ive got one Japanese maple that's been in a small nursery container until a few days ago when I slip potted into a larger pot because it needed a better anchor from wind. I've noticed small leaves growing that are getting burnt/crispy, is this a lack of water, too much sun or potting problem?

This is typical at this time of the year. How much sun is it getting now? Are you keeping it consistently and evenly watered?

Typical leaf scorch. You can try to water more but those leaves are toast. No worries ,will respond with new growth, maybe this year but probably next spring. The trick is dappled sun and generous watering during the heat of summer.

Yup, and not the kind you can enjoy with some butter and damson plum preserves . :(

Heat/ sun can scorch leaves, but it happens more often when combined with WIND. That can be the real X factor in leaf scorch it seems.
