So I found these while watering this morning. It's on the bottom of single leaf on my trident maple, and I don't see anything similar on the rest of the tree or nearby trees. Any idea on what these are or how I should handle them? Since it was only on this one leaf, I cut it off and threw it away.

That kind of makes sense. The American hornbeam sitting next to it has had something eating its leaves much like a caterpillar would, but I haven't seen any actual insects on it. I've sprayed that one once or twice with insecticidal soap
