Collected some cones yesterday. Hoping to get a good few seedlings going by next spring. They seem like a hardy species and the trunks look mighty beautiful when mature. Soaking them overnight and will likely sow in a perl/verm mix tomorrow.
Not sure cold strat is necessary since the temps in native environment rarely drop below 20.
Will post pics later.

They are an interesting species. The mature needles are extremely long, but they backbud like crazy, even on the trunk under old bark. I bought a large one from a nursery and stump cut it below the first branch. It threw out buds everywhere.

Yeah there was a forest fire this year and the trunks were completely charred and back budding like crazy. The needles were like 12 inches long. It'll be a challenge to keep them to scale on a bonsai.
