Zach Smith of Bonsai-South

Hi, I recently came across Zach Smith of bonsai-south.com. He seems to have some great field collected material. Has anyone had experience with him?

I've never purchased any stock from him, but he gives alot of good advice to folks here on Bnut.

I've bought Bald cypress and other stock from Zach over the years. There's a pic somewhere here of a BC I bought from him about 15 years ago. Wonderful collected trunk that I developed into a pretty good tree.

He sells great stuff and is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

I have been to Zach's nursery. Its in his back yard and he is in the process of some serious landscape to accommodate his trees. I went there in the spring and he had some interesting trees. I bought a water elm from him and it was fairly priced. I would highly recommend you if you are interested in yamadori trees.

I purchased two trees from Zach last month. The trees arrived quickly, in great health and at a very reasonable price. I've also had lots of questions for Zach about the trees both before and after receiving them and he's answered all of them completely and quickly. Zach even went as far as to offer to cancel the sale of one of the trees because the leaves were blackened by the intense heat in LA. I told him that if the tree was healthy, I'd take it, as leaves are quick to replenish.

Zach's the best

I have purchased trees from Zach at bonsai-south. They arrive fast. The price is fair for the tree. The packing is perfect. The trees are healthy. And, you can easily set your date of arrival based on climate conditions. I bought one tree and delayed it for nearly a year because of frost and winter timing. Zach was, as is, extremely helpful in all aspects of bonsai.

After the sale? Zach comes through with the best service I've known. He is always willing to share practical advice, help with unanswered questions and provide insight into a particular trees habits and needs. I have not yet found a question to tough for Zach to answer....and I've asked him a few odd questions too.

He is also the best resource for Water Elm trees and their proper care. Terrific person.

Zach is one of the good guys. The quality of his stock is high, he does what he says he will do and his pricing is good for the trees he sells. There are cheaper trees available but as always, you get what you pay for.
